What is Thinclient?

THIN CLIENT / WHAT IS THIN CLIENT?

Thin client, which has a wide usage area in the IT world, can be briefly defined as follows; They are terminal devices that allow all kinds of information sharing (input and output) over the server, that is, the main computer, which is the main element of multi-user systems.

As a hardware component in Thinclient devices;
  • Main board
  • Central Processing Unit / CPU
  • DOM (Disk On Modul)
  • Memory
  • Display and sound card
  • USB, serial, parallel ports and PS/2 interface
  • RJ45 Ethernet input, audio and microphone outputs
  • Some models have a built-in wireless card.
As software; Thin client devices have an operating system embedded on the DOM.
  • Microsoft Windows CE, XPe, WES, or Windows 7 embedded SP2 or SP3 is pre-installed with a license label.
  • There are also models using the Linux operating system.
  • In addition, there are emulation software required to connect to servers running with different operating systems on the DOM, drivers for printers and Turkish language codes.

In addition, some models have VMware and XenDesktop features used for virtualization. It can also be used without the DOM containing the operating system on models with PXE connectivity.

  • Since there are no moving parts inside, the probability of malfunction is very low,

  • The Total Cost of Ownership is extremely low.

Due to the above-mentioned features, the use of thin clients is rapidly becoming widespread with the awareness of IT users.
